Anne Katzenberg
Chair - Education Committee
I had my first garden at the age of 4, in the gentler climate of western Pennsylvania. I love playing in the dirt and exploring the natural world. In university, I studied geology and anthropology, becoming a biological anthropologist with a focus on prehistoric diet and disease. After spending 35 years in the Archaeology department at the University of Calgary, it seemed appropriate to return to gardening, where I could coax interesting and beautiful things from the soil.
I began working as a volunteer at BGSS in 2021, initially to fulfill the volunteer requirement for the Master Gardener Certificate (completed in August 2021). I joined the BGSS board in 2023 and currently chair the BGSS Education committee. I am also a member of the Tree and Shrub committee and the Volunteer Committee. I am the lead gardener of the Swan and Peony gardens, and they include some of the same plants that grew in my childhood garden.
